Low Impact

Healthy forests provide us with clean air and water while removing carbon from the atmosphere. These forests also provide us with timber, one of our most useful renewable resources. Without proper planning and care timber harvest will degrade the health of a forest.

APF specializes in low impact cable logging following the principles of Ecological Forestry. We design and implement timber harvests to mimic natural disturbance patterns and increase biodiversity of the forests. We believe it is critical to use low impact techniques when harvesting timber so forests remain healthy and productive for future generations.

We“Fly” Timber to Save Soils

Soils are the foundation of all healthy forests. In the mountains, conventional ground based logging requires high impact road building which leads to soil compaction and erosion.

We use a cable system to “fly” logs out of the forest in order to reduce soil impacts and minimize the need for roads. Our cable yarding system allows us to move logs without driving heavy equipment up the mountain side.

We are committed to minimizing soil disturbance by using innovative techniques to harvest timber and continuing to explore new ways to reduce our footprint in the forest.
